First XI Division 1 Soccer, Round 3![]()
St Peter’s College 9 Sacred Heart College 1
A powerful second half proved the key to St Peter’s win against Sacred Heart at FFSA State Centre of Football (Pitch 2), Saints cruising in 9-1.
A tight first half saw Hearts score first, but Saints led 2-1 at half time with both sides enjoying an edge at varying times. But that changed after the break.
Saints manager Ashley Coats said it was an excellent effort from the team, especially after half time.
“The second half saw the Saints completely take control,’’ Coats said. “A superb passing move involving Alex Ibrahim and Jack Hollington ended with James Tolis finishing clinically to complete a brilliant team goal. Alex Ibrahim produced one of the goals of the day with a spectacular strike from outside the 18-yard box that rocketed into the absoluter top right corner.
“Jack Hollington continued his outstanding performance with a trademark curling finish into the top left corner before later adding another powerful strike into the top right-hand corner. James Tolis added to his tally with a fierce finish hammered into the roof of the net.
“It was an outstanding all-round performance from Saints, combining teamwork, composure, and spectacular finishing in one of their strongest displays of the season.’’
Best for Saints were Alex Ibrahim (one goal), Tadgh Jackson and Noah Ibrahim. Goalscorers were Jack Hollington (three), James Tolis (two) with one each to Isaiah Spinks, Leo Dreosti and Peter Demourtzidis.
Hearts manager Kurtis Harrison said the second half was hard for the team.
“Unfortunately for Sacred Heart, that (first half) was as good as it got,’’ Harrison said.
“The team unravelled in the second half, eventually suffering a humiliating 9-1 defeat - the heaviest loss in the college’s history.
“The Hearts will have plenty to reflect on during the week as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures ahead. Despite the result, there were still encouraging individual performances from Pat Lambourne, Ethan Clarke, and Roy Rana and Driton Sali (one goal).![]()
Nazareth Catholic College 11 Mercedes College 0![]()
Nazareth produced a strong all-round game, blitzing Mercedes 11-0 st FFSA State Centre of Football (Pitch 3).
On top from the start Nazareth poured on the pressure to lead 4-0 at half time and then bombarded the goal with seven more goals to record their first double-figure score this season.
Nazareth coach Luiz Lobo said it was an excellent all-round game from the team.
“The second half began with the same intensity from Nazareth and Mercedes struggled to keep up,’’ Lobo said.
“They were forced into defending for long periods and were unable to create opportunities due to our pressure, work rate and determination to keep attacking. It was a brilliant performance from the group, especially considering we had a few players missing.
“This created opportunities for some younger players to make their First XI debut with a few even scoring in their first appearance for the team.’’
Nazareth saw goals from Louis Pietsch (two goals), and singles to Malual Malual, Peter Palasis, Joey Calarco, Ollie Bowis, Harry Pickles, Samuel Woods, Cody Septoe, Diezel Shrubsole and Ilija A.
A Mercedes spokesman said the side was outplayed but stuck to its task well.
“Full credit to the Nazareth players for putting on a dominant display,’’ he said.
“We had some good patches after a super quick start from them in the opening 20 minutes. Plenty of learnings for our team and a great opportunity to be exposed to some high-end talent around the state.
“It was a positive opportunity for some Open B players to have some minutes replacing injuries.’’
Best players included right wing/forward Henry McLachlan, right wing/forward Alessandro Rossi and central midfielder Emerson Kidd.
St Paul’s College 3 Blackfriars Priory School 2![]()
St Paul’s made it two wins from three games when it edged out Blackfriars 3-2 at Croydon Soccer Club (Pitch 1 Synthetic). St Paul’s struck first midway through the opening half but a lapse in concentration allowed Blackfriars back into the game to score, before Blackfriars made it 2-1 with a penalty just before the break.
St Paul’s manager Matthew Stramare said the side responded well in the second half.
“The second half began with renewed intent from St Paul’s who were rewarded when substitute Jono made an immediate impact with an assist, following a sharp tactical change from mastermind coach C Librino.
“What followed was a tense, high-intensity contest as both sides pushed for a winner. In the dying minutes Liam Oliviero delivered a sublime pass over the defence for Iluka Wootton who rounded the keeper, was brought down, and calmly converted the resulting penalty to secure a 3-2 victory.’’
Best for St Paul’s were left wing Iluka Wootton (two goals), central midfielder Liam Oliviero, centre back Domenico Laudonia and Bgor Deng (one goal).
Best for Blackfriars were defensive midfielder Ashwin Pangly, striker Eyob Yerega and centre back Luca Di Stefano.![]()
St Michael’s College 7 Prince Alfred College 3![]()
Goals aplenty was the theme at West Beach Parks Football Centre when St Michael’s outgunned Prince Alfred 7-3. St Michael’s led 4-2 at half time and upped the pressure from there.
Lucas Fedele led the way with three goals, while Thomas O’Connor and Jasper Gargula (two goals) were solid. Daniel Romano and Cole Blackwood scored a goal each.
PAC’s scorers were Ollie Kirkness and Jackson Tomkins-Green.

Christian Brothers College 9 St Ignatius College 1![]()
Christian Brothers made it two wins from three games when it cruised home against St Ignatius 9-1 at Campbelltown City Soccer Club.
Coming into the round CBC had recorded a draw and a one-goal win but this time it hit the scoresheet hard.
Both teams started the game positively with chances at both ends. CBC broke through early to lead 2-0, then Iggies hit back when Jacob Booth scored to make it 2-1.
CBC dominated the rest of the half to lead 5-1 at the break.
CBC manager Jackson Ritter said it was an even effort from the team. “Some wonderful passages of play saw CBC dominate the ball throughout the entire game,’’ Ritter said.
“Every CBC player on the pitch gave their all in a wonderful display of football. St Ignatius put up a good fight, but nothing was going to stop the brilliance of the CBC squad. A great performance from the entire team.’’ Striker Fabian Altamura (three goals), centre back Sebastian Politis and striker Anthony Brooksby (three goals) led the way, while Maximus Chegwidden and Kim Lien scored a goal each. There also was an own goal recorded.
St Ignatius coach Angelo Picca said the team was hoping to respond in the second half.
“We were hoping for a stronger response in the second half, however CBC continued to capitalise on its opportunities and extended the scoreline to finish 9-1 winners,’’ Picca said.
“There was understandably a drop in confidence as the goals continued but the result did not completely reflect the effort and passages of play shown, particularly in the first half.
“The key takeaways moving forward are improving our mentality during difficult periods of games and ensuring we remain composed regardless of the scoreline.
“We also need to be more clinical with the chances we create. This is a result we now need to put behind us as we refocus on the remainder of the season.’’
Best for St Ignatius were Jacob Bracchi, Jacob Booth (one goal) and Matthew Sergious.
Rostrevor College 9 Immanuel College 2![]()
Rostrevor again kept the scorers busy at home, producing a goal fest to beat Immanuel 9-2. After three rounds Rostrevor has scored 19 goals and conceded three goals.
An entertaining first half saw Rostrevor strike first when Josh Tassotti followed in from a Julian Sofias which cannoned off the post. Captain Jordan Schrippa then slotted in at the near post.
Immanuel pulled one back from the penalty spot before each team scored another goal each to make it 3-2 Rostrevor’s way at half time.
Rostrevor coach Jamie Lee said the second half was big for Rostrevor. “We came out flying in the second half,’’ Lee said.
“Elijah, who had a fine display, saw his cut back met by Matias Sauchelli to make it six. Paolo Matto finished with a flurry as he tucked away three neat finishes for a hat trick ensuring Rostrevor ran away with the 9-2 victory.’’
Among Rostrevor’s best were right wing/forward Elijah Weeks (one goal), central midfielder Matias Sauchelli (one goal) and right back Timothy Quek. Paolo Matto scored the game’s final three goals, while single scorers were Josh Tassoti, Jordan Schrippa, Emilio Piombo and Julian Sofia.
Immanuel manager Thomas Parkin said the side battled well early but was overpowered in the second half. “Despite the encouraging first-half performance, the second half proved challenging for Immanuel,’’ Parkin said.
“Rostrevor lifted its intensity and capitalised on opportunities, while we struggled to maintain the same level of cohesion and defensive structure. As the game progressed Rostrevor extended its lead.
“Although the result was disappointing the first half effort and individual performances provided positive signs.
“The team will look to build consistency across both halves, focusing on sustaining pressure.’’
