BASKETBALL

RULES

· All games will start at 8.30 a.m., 9.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. for all groups

Primary games

· Prim B/C 8.30 a.m. or 9.30 a.m.

· Prim A 10.30 a.m. start

Secondary Games

· If only one grade starting time will fit in with availability of courts

· Matches may commence if three players are present.

· However if five players are not present by the end of the half time break, a forfeit should be enforced - however teams should make every effort to play the game.

· Students are encouraged where ever possible to play only one match in a single round of play.

· However players may play twice providing that:

The player/s in question plays up in the next level in the same category – no player is to play down in a lower division or grade.

· All games will be of four ten minute quarters adopting the full rules of basketball including direction arrow with the clock being stopped in the last 3 minutes of play.

· The last three minutes being fully times can be waived by agreement between coaches.

· Four team fouls per quarter apply before bonus fouls shots are applied

.· For all grades the three point rule shall apply.

· A tech foul should be imposed for any audible obscenity.

· The Association operates under FBI rules.

· Players on all indoor courts must wear non-marking footwear

· No player may wear a T shirt under his/her team single at any indoor venue.

· No tracksuits may be worn during a game by any player.

· Non regulation shorts are not to be worn.

· Any player not correctly attired will be technically fouled and will not be

Permitted to play until correctly attired.

· Each team is to supply a scorer. The home team is to supply a timekeeper.

· School basketball uniforms must be worn, with numbers as per basketball rules.

Umpires -

· The host school is responsible for providing and paying for the umpire.

Reported Players -

· If a player is sent from the court by the umpire for a reportable offence, the umpire

must at the conclusion of the game complete a report card provided by the coach.

· This card will be forwarded to the player’s Principal for appropriate action.

Note: This does not include normal fouling off.

Primary Rules

· All grades are to use a size 6 ball.

· Height of rings to be 10 feet for Grade 5, 6, 7.

· 8’6’ rings are only to be used if schools do not have 10 foot rings
